Distributing XPRIZE Winning Marine Permaculture Solution

Sacred Seaplants has partnered with Climate Foundations to distribute their innovative Marine Permaculture solution across Canada & USA. The Climate Foundation, founded by Dr. Brian von Herzen, won the XPRIZE for their groundbreaking technology that uses seaweed to increase food security and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Marine Permaculture Regenerative Upwelling. By locally restoring natural

upwelling, this approach restores natural upwelling

mostly with solar power to provide cool water and

nutrients from depth to facilitate growth of local

species of seaweed. We use solar, wind or wave

energy to bring cooler water up to the mixed layer

and bring it into thermal equilibrium with the

surface water. Then we pass the cooler water

through perforated diffuser pipes that irrigate the

attached seaweed forest, supplying nutrients to the

seaweed for growth. If deployed close to coral reefs,

this technology can also help cool the reef with

deeper seawater. It can also be deployed on reef flat

regions that historically used to support seaweed

growth

By becoming a distributor, Sacred Seaplants can help deploy this climate-friendly seaweed platform nationwide. Marine Permaculture grows kelp forests that act as natural carbon sinks. The seaweed sequesters CO2 while providing habitat for marine life and nutrients for Sacred Seaplants' regenerative ocean farming.

Corporations can also benefit from partnering with Sacred Seaplants and Climate Foundations. The seaweed grown provides corporations with verified carbon credits for 10 years. This enables companies to take meaningful climate action and meet ESG goals. Part of the cultivated seaweed biomass can also be used for biostimulants that boost crop yields for agricultural partners.
